Pilots Safety Briefing text:

The pilot's safety briefing begins promptly at 9:30am on each day of the fun fly. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss field operational rules specific to the facility we are flying at.

Transmitter impound & frequency control

- The SVRW event staff does NOT intend to impound native 2.4gHz transmitters. Pilots that elect to operate both 2.4GHz and 72MHz (or 50MHz) via module based systems using a common transmitter will be asked to impound. Pilots must change frequency or channel at the transmitter impound table.

- All other transmitters MUST be impounded. Transmitter impound is in effect from:

Friday - 12pm to 4:00pm

Saturday - 8am to 4:00pm

Sunday - 9am to 12:00pm

- Outside of these times, frequency control is via the honor system (field rules). In order the fly outside of the transmitter impound hours of operation, the pilot MUST check out the frequency pin from the frequency control board. The pilot will leave his/her ID pin (issued at event registration) in place of the frequency pin to indicate the issuance of the frequency pin.

- There will be no un-attended transmitters in the pits or other areas of the facility during transmitter impound hours of operation (except 2.4gHz equipped transmitters). Un-attended transmitters will be returned to transmitter impound by SVRW event staff.

- Pilots must state his/her frequency upon registration. If more than one frequency is indicated, transmitter impound staff will ask the pilot to change frequency at the transmitter impound table.

Pilot flight stations

- There will be a total of (7) flight stations, each marked by an orange traffic safety cone. Pilots will be asked to stand next to the cone indicating the particular flight station.

- Only the pilot and a spotter is allowed at the pilot station.

- The SVRW event staff may alter the location of the pilot stations during the event in order to facilitate an additional flight station, up to (8) total if needed.

- At certain times during the event, the SVRW event staff will close a flight station or a group of flight stations in order to conduct an event. However, there will be a minimum of (2) flight stations available for the duration of the event except during field closure (field is closed during the pilots safety briefing, for example).

- Pilots will be asked to maintain a minimum safe distance from the helicopter. The general rule of thumb is: The greater the rotor disk diameter, the farther away the helicopter must be from the pilot. The SVRW recommends a minimum safe distance of 10 to 20 feet dependent upon main rotor disk diameter.

- Pilots will be asked to maintain flight within his/her airspace. That is the area directly in front of the pilot station. There will be no over flights of other pilots, spectator areas or pits at any time.
