The 2008 SVRW OctoberFly Fun Fly is set for October 3rd, 4th & 5th. Mark your calendars now!
Q: What Is the SVRW OctoberFly?
A: The SVRW OctoberFly is an R/C (remote controlled) helicopter fun fly. As the name may imply, a “fun fly” is gathering of folks interested in the hobby/sport of R/C helicopters. The event lasts three full days officially starting on Friday, October 3rd at 12:00pm (pilots are welcome and encouraged to fly even before 12pm, Friday).
R/C helicopter pilots from around Northern California and beyond will attend the event. Flight demonstrations by factory pilots are scheduled for 11:30am Saturday and continue throughout the event.
Q: Are spectators welcome?
A: YES! There are flight demonstrations scheduled during the event that showcases some of the talents and capabilities of pilot and machine.
Q: I’m just starting out…. Can I bring my heli to have a pro set it up during the event?
A: Unfortunately, the SVRW will not have sufficient staff dedicated solely for heli setup during the event. However, there will be many experienced pilots attending the event. It will be entirely up to their discretion to offer help. Keep in mind that some folks are traveling from far away to attend the event.
It is recommended that you schedule a weekend outside of the fun fly for heli setup. Members of the SVRW are more than willing to lend assistance on any given weekend. If you’re outside the Sacramento region, we can put you in touch with someone in your area.
Q: Do you have competitions?
A: Yes. The competitions are strictly for fun. An example of some of the events may include autorotation landing to a spot and picking up rings with the landing skid. The ‘Novice’ event is tailored for the beginner. If you’re comfortable hovering and landing you can participate!
Q: When do the flight demonstrations begin?
A: Skilled pilots from region will be flying throughout the event. Factory pilots will also grab a flight or two when possible. Saturday, October 4th, 11:30am is when the 1st of the flight demonstrations will begin.
Q: Do I have to be a member of the AMA- Academy of Model Aeronautics to fly my helicopter at the SVRW OctoberFly?
A: Yes. There are no exceptions. You must also register for the event and show proof of AMA. As with any AMA sanctioned event, you may sign up for AMA membership at the field, the same day as the event.
Q: Will there be food and drink for sale at the event?
A: Yes. Unlike the state fair or a Las Vegas hotel, a bottle of water will sell for $.50. Grab a burger or dog for lunch.
Q: Do I have to impound my transmitter?
A: Native 2.4GHz transmitters will NOT be required to be impounded. Pilots may fly at any open flight station at any time during the event. Transmitters that operate in 72MHz or 50MHz must be impounded.
Q: Will there be night flying?
A: Unfortunately NO, lease conditions at our flying facility do not permit flying at night.
